SHELL
- size: small to mid-sized. Maximum 95 mm but most specimens under 70 mm.
- thickness: thin throughout
- shape: oval-elongate. some older individuals have pinched appearance mid-shell on ventral edge.
- width: moderately inflated to very inflated in older adults. rarely cylindrical in cross-section, contrary to what the name suggests
- surface: smooth, not shiny.
- beak sculptures:
- color/markings: pale brown/beige, with fine green rays in posterior.
- sexual dimorphism: none
- pseudocardinal teeth: none
- lateral teeth: none
- nacre: irridescent white to bluish white
Soft parts: foot light peach. mantle pale. siphons moderately gaping. inhalant siphon papillae short
Similar species/lookalikes: similar to young Pyganodons and creepers (see creeper diagnostics for differing shell and sculpture characters)
