Pygmy Pipistrelle

Pipistrellus pygmaeus

Description 2

Their mass is usually 3-7 g, body length 32-45 mm, tail length 20-36 mm, forearm length 28-30 mm, wingspan 18-21 cm.

Fur is short and dense, on the back is brown, on the abdomen lighter. Ear rounded, somewhat longer than wider. A tragus with a rounded apex, its length is about 4 times wider than the width. The thumb is longer than or equal to the width of the wrist measured on the folded wing. The fifth finger of the brush along with the metacarpal bone - about 46 mm long. From a kindred dwarf-dwarf with whom this species was previously mixed, the small bat differs in orange secretion of the facial skin and buccal glands, as a result of which the muzzle, wool (primarily on the head) and genitals in the adult animals have an orange-yellow hue. Also, the maximum energy of echolocation signals in a small bat is about 54 kHz (versus about 46 kHz in a dwarf), which makes it possible to distinguish these types acoustically.
