Unique among Wisconsin squirrel species. This species is built wide and flat, not unlike a badger. Can resemble Muskrat but note shorter, furry tail, flatter shape, and terrestrial habitat. Not seen during winter, when hibernating.

Statewide.

Habitat 3

Open woodlands, savannas, and forest clearings.

Size 3

18-28", tail 3-6".
