The blue grosbeak (Passerina caerulea, formerly Guiraca caerulea), is a medium-sized seed-eating bird in the same family as the northern cardinal, "tropical" or New World buntings, and "cardinal-grosbeaks" or New World grosbeaks.

Details 7

Description: males are bright indigo with orange and black striped wings and a thick beak. Females are orange brown with paler orange and black wing stripes. 6 to 7in head to tail.

Found in park: mostly spring migrants seen. Spotted in Cades Cove

Habitat: brush, streamside thickets, open weedy fields

Status: more common during breeding seasons
