Lancashire Key Species - Butterflies, Moths and Caddis Flies

Butterfly, moth and caddis fly species listed as Lancashire Key Species in the review of 24/09/2019.

Lancashire Key Species (LKS) refers to species which have a recognised status, either (inter)nationally or locally within Lancashire. The criteria for inclusion are available from LERN.

LKS are split into two categories, those that are:

A). believed to be of native occurrence in Lancashire;

B). considered not to be of native occurrence and are potentially invasive (a.k.a Lancashire Invasive Non-native Species).

LKS supersede the lists developed for the Lancashire Biodiversity Action Plan (pending review, Lancashire BAP lists are included as LKS).

For non-migratory species identification as a LKS is usually based upon proven or likely breeding records rather than presence. For migratory species identification will be based on seasonal populations. less ↑
