Fatal Metalmark

Color: Male forewing pointed. Upperside brown with slightly darker median bands; fringes checkered.
Wingspan: 3/4 - 1 inch (2 - 2.5 cm)
Host plants: Seepwillow (Baccharis glutinosa), perhaps virgin's bower (Clematis species).
Flight: All year in south Texas, May-October in California

Rounded Metalmark

Color: Male with tip of forewing rounded. Upperside brown with indistinctly checkered fringes; may have dark median band.
Wingspan: 11/16 - 15/16 inch (1.8 - 2.4 cm)
Host plants: Boneset (Eupatorium odoratum) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).
Flight: Throughout the year in South Texas, but most common from March-November.

Red-bordered Metalmark

Color: Leading edge of forewing is arched in both sexes. Male upperside is dark brown with a postmedian line of metallic spots extending from leading edge of forewing. Female lighter. Underside of male checkered with red; female orange.
Wingspan: 3/4 - 1 inch (2 - 2.5 cm)
Host plants: Spiny hackberry (Celtis pallida) in the elm family.
