Birds of Boisé Du Tremblay

• Size: 7-10 ¼ inches long, 1 ½-3 ½ ounces, 13-16 inch wingspan
• Color: black and white, black wings checkered with white, head large white patch down center of back, two white stripes on head, males red patch toward the back of the head large white patch runs down the center of the black back
• Sound: short, sharp peek note very similar to Downy Woodpeckers
• Reproduction: Excavate nests in dead trees or in dead parts of live trees
• Food: Insects
• Behavior: Bark forager
• Habitat: Forests
• Other: Similar to the Downy woodpecker but is larger and has a longer beak compared to head size less ↑
