It is an inhabitant of rocky shores with plentiful overhangs and crevices at depths of from near the surface to 30 metres (98 ft). This species can reach a length of 28 centimetres (11 in) SL.

Schuettea scalaripinnis is a species of fish in the family Monodactylidae, the moonyfishes. Its common names include eastern pomfred, or ladder-finned pomfret.
