Butterflies of Myanmar (Burma)

A total of 1197 butterfly species have been recorded in Myanmar. Myanmar holds six endemic butterfly species. These include Allaemona prasopsuki, Euthalia hisui, Euthalia takeru, Lethe sadona, Ypthima shimai and Ypthima shirozui.

Painted Lady

Vanessa cardui is a well-known colorful butterfly, known as the painted lady, or in North America as the cosmopolitan. This butterfly has a strange habit of flying in a sort of screw shape.

Pallas' Sailer

Dark Catseye

Zipaetis scylax, the dark catseye, is a species of butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is found from Sikkim to Assam and in northern Burma.

Peacock Pansy

Junonia almana, the peacock pansy, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in South Asia. It exists in two distinct adult forms, which differ chiefly in the patterns on the underside of the wings; the dry-season form has few markings, while the wet-season form has additional eyespots and lines.

Great Marquis

Bassarona dunya, the great marquis, is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is found in South-East Asia.

Green Commodore

Sumalia daraxa, the green commodore, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in tropical and subtropical Asia.

Tawny Rajah

Charaxes bernardus, the tawny rajah, is a butterfly that belongs to the rajahs and nawabs group, that is, the Charaxinae group of the brush-footed butterflies family. This species can be found in India, China, Indomalaya, and onwards to Indonesia.

Tropical Fritillary

The Indian fritillary (Argynnis hyperbius) is a species of butterfly of the nymphalid or brush-footed family. It is usually found from south and southeast Asia to Australia.

Tufted Jungle King

Thauria aliris, the tufted jungleking, is a butterfly found in South East Asia that belongs to the Morphinae subfamily of the brush-footed butterflies family.

Yellow Rajah

Charaxes marmax, the yellow rajah, is a butterfly found in India that belongs to the rajahs and nawabs group, that is, the Charaxinae group of the brush-footed butterflies family.

White Tiger Butterfly

Danaus melanippus, the black veined tiger, white tiger, common tiger, or eastern common tiger, is a butterfly species found in tropical Asia which belongs to the "crows and tigers", that is, the danaine group of the brush-footed butterflies family.

Yerbury's Sailer

Neptis yerburii, or Yerbury's sailer, is a nymphalid butterfly found in India, (Assam and Sikkim), parts of China, Burma and Thailand.
