Hen and Chicks Fern

Asplenium bulbiferum, known as mother spleenwort, is a fern species native to New Zealand only. It is also called hen and chicken fern and, in the Māori language, pikopiko, mouku or mauku. Its fronds are eaten as a vegetable. It is often confused with A. gracillimum which is a fern species native to both New Zealand and Australia.

Asplenium bulbiferum gracillimum

Asplenium gracillimum is a fern species native to Australia and New Zealand, also found in Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands. The specific epithet gracillimum refers to the slender and graceful appearance of this fern.

Necklace Fern

Asplenium flabellifolium is commonly known as the necklace fern. This small fern occurs in all states of Australia, as well as in New Zealand. It was initially described by Spanish botanist Antonio José Cavanilles.

Oceaniopteris cartilaginea, synonym Blechnum cartilagineum, is known as the gristle fern or soft water fern. It is a resilient and abundant fern growing in eastern Australia, seen in rainforest and eucalyptus forest. The new growth is often pink or reddish in colour.

Blechnum neohollandicum

Doodia aspera, commonly known as prickly rasp fern, is a widespread and common plant, growing in eastern Australia. Often seen in rainforest margins or eucalyptus forest in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, it is a terrestrial fern with reddish new growth.

Fishbone water-fern

Blechnum nudum is commonly known as the fishbone waterfern. It is a fern that grows up to a metre tall, and is abundant in rainforest and eucalyptus forest in eastern Australia.

Hard Water-fern

Blechnum wattsii or the hard water fern is a common fern growing in rainforest and open forest. Often seen near creeks in much of south eastern Australia.
