Comprised of an 880-acre reservoir and 3305 acres of upland, Cherry Creek State Park is the largest regional park and recreation area in the southeast Denver area. it was also the first park in the state park system. Located in the High Plains section of the Great Plains, the park sits on a gently rolling, eastward-sloping plain dominated by mixed prairie communities. The park supports a wide variety of biological assets including diverse wetlands, riparian, and aquatic plant communities. More than 150 species of migratory and resident birds have been observed here, including numerous raptors, waterfowl, and shorebirds.
