Mueller State Park preserves an area of semi-wilderness within a short drive of one of Colorado’s largest metropolitan areas – Colorado Springs. The park is located on the western flank of Pike’s Peak, at elevations between 8900-9800 feet. Mueller is comprised of 5,121 acres of land, owned by the State of Colorado. This makes Mueller one of the largest state-owned parks in the system.
Many bird species have been reported at the park, including migratory songbirds, several species of raptors, and game birds. Elk and mule deer are a common sight, as are cottontail rabbit, coyote, red fox, raccoon, porcupine, muskrat, and long-tailed weasels.
