Eldorado Canyon State Park lies eight miles southwest of the city of Boulder along the eastern edge of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in an ecotone between the grasslands below and coniferous forests in and above the park. The park is made up of 1,442 acres owned by the State of Colorado and Jefferson County. The park is comprised mostly of ponderosa-juniper woodland, though douglas fir may be found on northerly aspects, along with dispersed riparian, mixed grassland, and wetland communities
