Birds of John Martin Reservoir State Park

John Martin Reservoir State Park located in Bent County along the Arkansas River between Las Animas and Larmar, CO. The Park consists of about 1,727 acres of land and between 1000 and 11,647 acres of water depending on the elevation of the reservoir. Boating and fishing are by far the most popular activities at the Park, followed by camping and wildlife watching. The Park is mostly shortgrass and mixed grass prairie, with small areas of upland shrublands on coarser soils. Riparian areas in the Arkansas River floodplain are a mixture of grassland and shrubland with smaller areas of cottonwood forest. The Park provides a visitor center, a camper services building, two campgrounds, a group campsite, several picnic areas, group picnic sites, two boat launch sites, a fishing handicapped accessible pier, a nature trail, and interpretive displays. less ↑
