Plants of Lathrop State Park

Lathrop State Park encompasses 1,434 acres of land and 320 acres of water. It is located about 90 miles south of Colorado Springs and 50 miles north of the Colorado-New Mexico state line. The principle features are Horseshoe and Martin Lakes, two of the largest reservoirs in the area, and Hogback Ridge, a prominent rock formation which lies along the northern boundary of the Park. Both Horseshoe and Martin Lakes are stocked with cold-water fish species early in the year and warm-water fish species when the water warms up in mid-summer. The Park’s native vegetation is dominated by pinyon-juniper woodland, with significant acreage of grass/shrubland areas, cottonwood riparian forest, riparian shrubland, and marsh. The riparian and marsh vegetation are closely associated with the two lakes and numerous ponds at Lathrop. The diversity of habitat supports a wide variety of wildlife species. less ↑
