Mancos State Park encompasses 553 acres, with 337 acres of land and 216 acres of water within Jackson Gulch Reservoir. Elevation ranges from about 7,800 to 8,100 feet. The Park is located in Montezuma County in southwestern Colorado, about 5 miles north of Mancos and 34 miles west of Durango. The native vegetation of the Park consists largely of Ponderosa Pine and Gambel Oak thickets. There are smaller areas of pinyon-juniper woodland, cottonwood riparian forest, and reclaimed grassland. The Park supports a wide variety of wildlife species, especially breeding birds, due to the presence of a variety of wildlife habitats, its relatively isolated location, and the presence of the reservoir.
