Vega State Park is located on the Grand Mesa, twelve miles east of Collbran and 43 miles east of Grand Junction in Mesa County. The 1,823-acre park lies at an elevation between 7,850 and 8,200 feet. The 898-surface-acre Vega reservoir supports rainbow, brook, brown, and cutthroat trout. Approximately 925 acres of upland are managed by the park, providing visitor facilities, recreational activities, open space, and wildlife habitat around the reservoir. Diverse wetland, riparian, and upland plant communities have become established around the reservoir and on large seeps below distribution canals. Park vegetation is comprised mostly of mixed mountain shrubland with smaller areas of aspen forests, sagbrush shrublands, meadows, and wetlands.
