Wildlife of Eleven Mile State Park

Located in the southeastern corner of South Park, Eleven Mile State Park consists of a 3,405-acre reservoir and 4,075 acres of upland. The eastern side of Eleven Mile State Park abuts the Pike National Forest and the southern edge of the park comes within one mile of the Forest. Eleven Mile State Park occurs at the boundary of the grasslands of South Park and the forests that occur on the mountains that rise to the east. The mountainous areas harbor a diverse mix of coniferous species and aspen. These areas can be dense forests with relatively sparse understory or open woodlands with more understory cover and a diverse mix of understory species. The transition areas include grasslands on the margins of the forest and woodland, and areas with abundant surface rock that not only support some of the species associated with the open woodland understory, but also possess a suite of species that are specific to these rocky areas.
