Some shrubs, including rabbitbrush, winter fat, snakeweed, and prickly-pear cactus, are also present in the grasslands. Ponderosa pine woodlands and mountain mahogany shrublands occur on the slopes of Spinney Mountain. Wetland and riparian plant communities, such as salt meadows, marshes, and riparian shrublands, occur in the floodplain of the South Fork of the South Platte River.
