Wildlife of Lake Pueblo State Park

Positioned approximately six miles west of the City of Pueblo, and within two hour’s drive of Denver and Colorado Springs, Lake Pueblo State Park attracts around 1.8 million visitors each year. It is located at the interface of the southern Rocky Mountains to the west and Great Plains to the east, in a broad valley with steep sides. Adjacent upland pains are flat to gently rolling, while steep bluffs and canyons are found along the southern portion of the park. The region is characterized by large swaths of mixed grassland communities in the upland areas, with pinyon-juniper woodlands along canyon rims and breaks. Riparian and wetland communities also occur along drainages and waterways. Areas where different ecosystems adjoin and overlap, called transition zones, provide greater habitat variety and increased diversity. less ↑
