The purpose of this guide is to list in one place every operational taxonomic unit (OTU) used across Marine Life of the Northeast Pacific (MLNEP) projects and guides. OTUs are assigned to link observations that appear to be the same species, but the species identity is uncertain.
A major objective of the MLNEP project is to support the accuracy and consistency of taxonomic identification in images, as well as to promote collaboration among stake-holders working within this region (project page: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/marine-life-of-the-northeast-pacific).
It is our intention that this online, open dialog between experts will help us build the largest, most reliable inventory of deep-sea NE Pacific species to date, providing a photo-based guide (and workflow) that will ultimately be beneficial for all deep-sea ecological research that follows.
This project, as well as much of the input from the experts, is supported by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)
