Ring Mountain Taylor Rd. Revegetation

This guide is meant to help identify both native and non-native plants in the revegetation area so that the non-natives can be removed by volunteers.

The revegetation plots are located along Taylor Fire Rd. in an area where mowing occurred historically. Disturbance from initial road construction activities and subsequent mowing led to increased numbers of non-native species in an area that would otherwise have been a beautiful native grassland. You can see existing native grasslands beginning 10-15 feet past the road edge, just beyond the disturbed mowing area.

Now that mowing has ceased along the road, some native species have re-established, but the area along the road is still dominated by non-native species. Volunteers work to weed these areas periodically. The revegetation plots are small areas where volunteers planted native seedlings and distributed native seeds. There is an ongoing effort to weed the non-natives out of these plots so that the native seedlings have a better chance of survival. less ↑
