Wildlife of Barr Lake State Park

Covering more than 1,900 surface acres, Barr Lake is one of the largest prairie reservoirs in Colorado open to public recreation. Barr Lake provides habitat for more than 340 species of birds and its significance is recognized on both national and international levels. Nearly 700 acres of surrounding park land provide additional day-use recreation opportunities including bicycling, hiking, hunting and horseback riding. The park’s abundant wildlife and tranquil setting attracts between 100,000 and 150,000 visitors each year. Interpretive nature programs, wildlife viewing and hiking are the most popular activities at this “sanctuary” park. less ↑
