Fort Mifflin is a National Historic Landmark located on the banks of the Delaware River near Philadelphia. The Fort served as a military installation from 1777 to 1954 and now operates as a federally protected historic site and nature habitat.
Since reclaimation in the 1990s, the environment surrounding the Fort is now protected and chemicals have been banned from the property. Hundreds of wildlife-friendly shrubs and trees have been planted & water quality has been vastly improved. Many native species have returned to the area, drawn by rich food sources and safe nesting areas. Beyond these historic walls, a new wetlands habitat is emerging for nature lovers to enjoy.
