Description

parasitic wasp

I have added these for interest, two weeks ago I added a similar wasp , and the question was asked then "why the powerful back legs" these shots will not answer that but you will notice that they are not for opening ant lions jaws. In the first picture is a wasp just sitting next to this hole in the bamboo, it sat there all morning, the next shot shows what came out of that hole, was the adult waiting to mate with the newborn or just to protecting it? The next shot shots show an adult testing the bamboo to pick up movement of Larva (it is a leaf cutters nest, the entrance was totally blocked with dry leaves) It then finds the ideal spot, starts lifting its body into position(next picture ) and the 5th shot shows the wasp laying the egg using that thin ovipositor under its body. They have preyed only on the leaf cutters. It still does not answer the question ..why the large hind legs?

Wasp

This wasp came along as I was photographing the Bitterbush and started visiting the flowers. Just as we were starting to get to grips with each other a ^little^ bee came along and chased it away and took over the flowerheads.
