miro seed collected in mid 2014 from planted miro tree located in abandoned property in the Red Zone on the corner of Bracken St and Retreat Rd.
I cut one of the seeds open just for fun .. the shell is up to c.2mm thick - and the seed was damaged in the process ... somewhat problematic to manually extract seed!
I have located the tree on the map (it has an existing observation recorded).

An impressive 65cm dbh Matai on a small alluvial flat on Eyre River, Mt Oxford in Black Beech dominated forest. Some other reasonable sized Matai & numerous seedlings present, but this was by far the largest in the immediate area, & was around the limit of it's extent up the valley.
A large, apparently sound tree that somehow was spared from the devastating logging in the early-mid 1900's
