Red-eared Slider (Trachemys scripta ssp. elegans)

Date

Description

I found this turtle in the parking area of a camp site in the wooded area of the park. There was no pond or stream anywhere near by and the ocean was a considerable distance away. He looks similar to old red sliders I have seen in Fort Worth but without water around this didn't seem likely but don't know what else he could be. Sent this picture to Dr. Carl Franklin at UT Arlington who identified it as a Red-eared slider (10/15/12)
