The three of us (Leslie, Mark and me) all found this to be an exceptionally plain butterfly.
I need help with this one! Coastal California, about 30 miles south of San Francisco. This was small, maybe 1-1.5 inches.
Very tiny butterfly. About half the size of the Acmon Blue. (Which is also pretty small.)
Found on the trail at Empire Mine State Park
A bee that could not fly was crawling around the ground
These turtles are in a man made, stocked pond at Oak Canyon Community Park which leads me to believe they were put there.
Upon looking them up on californiaherps.com I read that they are an alien species.
There are at least 10 that I saw today.

Beaten up but a beautiful pale green.
A horned lizard lounging in the sand along road to Arrastre Creek, on the back side of Big Bear City/Lake. Not sure which horned lizard this is.
The owl seemed to prefer the ground; I think it was guarding a nest (and if so, it was doing a horrible job). Upon my arrival, the bird hopped onto a branch. The owl was about 10 inches tall. See the photograph for more detail. FYI - my geographic placement is not entirely correct. The sighting was somewhere around Weldon Peak, but I can't remember the details.
I found this bat when I was hiking. Unfortunately, it was belly up and still breathing. Knowing the dangers, I kept my distance while taking the picture. It was very beautiful; grey, black, white mottling on it's chest.
