Tibicen lyricen lyricen - Lyric Cicada ("ssp. lyricen var. lyricen")

These incredible flying-trojan horses take over our entire forest during the month of August. They make an incredible racket!
Note the cool eyes and green color.

Description

A beautiful (4.5ft) coachwhip found underneath a slab of dolomite on the Missouri mini-deserts. I was surprised to see it play dead like an Eastern Hognose :] That definitely made my day!

Likely a Pickerel Frog....still not 100 percent it isn't N. Leopard. The back thighs seem to have a yellow cast but I couldn't see that until I looked at the photo.(possibly reflected light off the algae?)
