Lichens of Southern Africa

Peggy and I are getting excited about our upcoming trip to South Africa in May-June. So I decided to take a preliminary look at what was out there in terms of lichens in that part of the world. I almost immediately happened onto this project - https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/lichens-of-southern-africa?tab=observers

The fellow who organizes this, @tonyrebelo , has written an introduction that aches for more members. Given that some of their common lichens there, such as Golden-eye, are ones we have, too, I figured there's no harm in informing my local lichen contacts of this project. I've joined already.

Lichen enthusiasts of the planet, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chain (ferns)!

BioBlitz at Sam McDonald County Park on Saturday March 2nd

Calling all San Mateo County iNat-ters: Be There! Please! So many habitats, so underexplored, and so many fungi!

I intend to go back to the park after the roundup, and visit habitats that were underrepresented. If you'd like to join me, just leave a message here.

Sign up for the project here - https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2019-sam-mcdonald-park-bioblitz

Sign up on Eventbrite - it's free, but this gives us a sense of carrying capacity
