This plant looks like peony, but the petals less than Chinese peony. Each flower has 8-10petals. Usually peony flower period is April to May.

First two pictures taken on the 11th of February. The third is a branch I found on the ground today. There are small crabapples all around the trunk.

The tree has small red buds and no leaves at this time. The bark on the trunk is rough and cracked.

Much shorts tree. Very few branches on this tree, but multiple buds throughout. Buds were a blue/purple color with white on the very tip of it.
