Description

Seen in one of many large patches of blue bells in a bottomland forest near Wea Park south of Lafayette, Indiana. Was foraging then dropped to dry leaves nearby and groomed herself then crawled where I couldn't see her. I spent about 45 minutes for queen bumble bees in the big patches of bluebells but this was the only queen I saw there or among the spring beauties that covered the forest floor.

Description

This queen was grooming herself in a bottomland forest full of Spring Beauties on dry tree leaves about 20 feet from the first of many big patches of bluebells. The spot between her wings looks like that of a two-spotted instead of common eastern but the two swoop spots on her abdomen are barely seen. She then flew away low to the ground. After this I remembered to set my camera clock one hour ahead to Indiana Eastern time so the time on the videos is one hour behind the actual time.

Description

Could see long yellow edge on lateral view as this big queen flew down to inspect holes under grass hanks for nest building site. Black face, strong black bar between wings, bright yellow on scutum when she popped out.
