Photos / SoundsWhatWhite Ibis (Eudocimus albus)Observerolson_k_019DescriptionIn the park, many White Ibis birds were moving in groups and appeared to be symbiotic with one another. Many of the birds were hunting for food by sticking their long beaks in the ground in multiple locations. When approached (cautiously and slowly) the birds began to move away in pack-like formation and tended to stick together as they continued to hunt. Most of the birds were white, with the exception of a few that were speckled with black and brown feathers. The birds were about a foot tall with approximately half of their height being made up by their slender, long legs. The birds were found very closely to the banks of the river where the ground was less packed and the dirt was looser. According to allaboutbirds.org, White Ibises tend to habitat wetlands and specifically many parks in Florida. The website also states that they forage in wet dirt and grass which was observed in these ibises behavior. |
