Flowers way too dark, leaves wrong shape, plant more a shrub than a vine - all point to F. xcolensoi

Ok. Yea it was more of a shrub than a vine. Is this a hybrid between F. excorticata and F. prescandens?

Well conventional theory is that F. xcolensoi is a hybrid swarm between F. excorticata and F. perscandens. But this needs critical study because you can find F. xcolensoi outside the range of F. perscandens (Stewart Island for example), and there is some evidence that at least some populations are stable and come true from seed. A hybrid origin is not disputed, and indeed the late Eric Godley made the hybrid but the view that its not a functional species that originated from hybridisation needs further testing.
