Mostly vegetative clumps. In saturated ground. Fertile culms reaching maturity. Spikes longer than that of other similar species nearby. Perigynia inflated, pistillate scales acuminate and scabrous at tip. Culm smooth below inflorescence. Staminate scale smooth on edges, except scabrous at tip.
