This moth-like insect gathered in great numbers on a plants at the top of a hill. The plant they favored appeared similar to coastal buckwheat. Many bees were in the area as well. The tiger moths were less than an inch long, with bright blue bodies and red heads.

This crane fly is on a building wall in an oak, redwood, and cypress forested hillside. The crane fly's body is about 1.5 inches long, with a wingspan of about 3 inches. Its head has a long, thick, fuzzy-looking extension in front. The abdomen is fairly straight (as opposed to hunched), round in the middle and pointed at the end. I'm not positive about my ID.
