South Island Tomtit (Petroica macrocephala ssp. macrocephala)Observer
danrobDescription
This tiny bird came very close to investigate. It is either a south island Robin or a female tomtit. The behaviour reminded me of its north island counterpart which would investigate whenever we were in its territory while occasionally checking loose bark for insects. I had heard songs earlier that were more like the south island tomtit, which at the time -- I had thought was a grey warbler with a messed up warble.
