Mattamuskeet Wildlife Refuge. It was one of the few sunny days with temperatures around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. This guy (not sure if is a guy - birds don't like to tell) was just inside the refuge on the left of Entrance Road Drive. The photo session seemed to meet with Bittern disapproval. As he stood knee deep in the canal he stuck several poses. Being careful not to disturb him, a good distance was kept, and attention was paid to his movements. This bird is about 26" inches tall, and is a wading bird.
