Interesting observation - male adult Common Bronzewing sitting on nest made on top of old White-winged Chough nest. Bronzewings, like most of the pigeon family, make flimsy stick nests - to see this one re-using an old chough nest is unusual for us. Observation by Wildlife Guide Martin Maderthaner.

Male Superb Fairy-wren moulting into or out of breeding plumage - some brown feathers can be seen on crown that are not there in breeding plumage. Judging from the time of year he should be moulting to non-breeding, but it was a long hot summer and many birds continued breeding well after normal. Description

A very large mature male with many scars around his ears, face and shoulders. The injuries seem to be healing well, and there's no reason to believe didn't recover fully. Male Swamp Wallabies fight hard, so these injuries may be the results of a territorial dispute with another male. We see many older males with torn ears and scars like these. Male adult emu with 11 newly-hatched chicks (only 9 or 10 can be seen in this picture). Emus live, range and breed wild at Serendip and are not fed, but are still considered by some to be captive because they don't leave the boundaries of the 640 acre property. I've ticked captive, to be safe, but I don't really think they are. Observation by Wildlife Guide Brett Howell.

Description

Adult Common Ringtail Possum face closeup, roosting in Allocasuarina tree in the You Yangs. The day was 27C, so warm but not a very hot day. We have often noticed some individuals of this species will roost in shady trees and bushes rather than in dreys - possibly these are young animals recently independent. Observation by Wildlife Guide Brett Howell.
