This tree present in abundance (early growth--15 feet tall) along Eno River. Another shot in SEEK not recorded here. My observation was recorded in SEEK at the time, but has since disappeared. I'm confused.

Description

Large tree, uncommon in the area and not recorded for the county deeply fissured back similar to cottonwood. Leaves with strongly unequal base, leaf slightly cupped towards the base of the midvein.

Flower image just today make ID point possibly to Araliaceae. Habitat: 2100 feet rich creek valley, formerly Hemlock dominated forest along headwaters of S fork of Roanoke River. Appears to be wild, one specimen only with casual search.
