Description

In beach drift on sand at high-tide line. Several tens of their shells were seen on the drift line, but none were paired. Its hinge is quite small and the valves can be easily separated by waves.
This species usually lives in/near channels so a live one is usually not found on beach.

In beach drift in gravel and shell fragments at low tide. Second one of this species for me, found just several ten minutes after the first one. Not very fresh but not old either, a mature specimen. Possibly washed up because of the Tsunami. Found when I was digging the gravel to find some shells.

In beach drift in gravel and shell fragments at low tide. First one of this species for me...! Very fresh, possibly washed up because of the Tsunami. Found when I was digging the gravel to find some shells. Very rare to see them in Auckland. There are also some records of this species in Rodney, mainly by diving.
I will upload a photo of this specimen later.
