This tiny insect flew away as I was doing some yard work on the unusually warm 68° January day. A lacewing maybe?

Found this on my dog’s head today. This struck me immediately as a very unusual looking tick. INat suggests deer tick, but that didn’t seem right. Someone suggested Brown Dog Tick and that is very much what it looks like!

I accidentally knocked this off of a sapling as I removed its tree tube. It was a larva encased in mud - might this be some sort of a wasp larva?

We wondered which bird this feather came from. The tip was white which threw us off. But we wondered maybe a female cardinal?

We had been gathering our dog poop bags in a plastic grocery bag outside. When I went to dump the bags into our bigger trash can bag (and reuse the smaller plastic bag), this beetle was in the plastic bag (possibly drawn to the smell of bagged dog poo?).

We found this gelatinous blob (on its own, separate from the shell) on the beach at sunrise. It was definitely alive, as the reddish tip retracted when we picked it up. I couldn’t find a good classification for what it might be. We wondered if it was the animal that lived inside of a whelk shell, or something similar? Never seen anything before like it. Didn’t have any tentacles - it was smooth all around. The last photo was of a 2nd, different patterned one that we found - it was more purple toned. Maybe different species?

We googled for these. Are they salps? They look so man-made while still looking so organic! They’re hard too - not squooshy like I expected.
