Accipiters Genus Accipiter

Description

Fast moving - no wingbeat - small (falcon-like) - and being chased by Magpies. I wanted to go with SSHA on this one - but could even go into Falco (Genus) perhaps...it was moving too fast and landed in a tree with Magpies in pursuit. see Journal notes for details:

Description

a series of photo images capturing an Accipiter Hawk (I am very sure a COHA, but if I were an iNatter making the call, I would stay at Genus level, given the lack of close up images on head and nape etc.). This Hawk flew off - and returned later to the same tree branch on my return hike back out...and then flew off again.

Description

a Red-Tailed Hawk launching from a telephone/utility pole; this Hawk is a regular in the area -usually arriving between noon and 1:30 pm - on most days with decent weather. Images are not the best - but I note it as an observation with high validity, but perhaps difficult for the iNaturalist community to corroborate with ID.

went back to observe Wild Turkey at Red Butte area; basically they like to scratch the ground like domestic fowl (chickens) - underneath a big Spruce tree which after snowfall is still relatively snow-free; there are about 25 in this group and only showed up a few days ago...it is a protected area - no dogs - and not many people in the area (during winter months).

conditions: 27 degrees- early morning.
Fox Squirrels (in this area) seem to never stop going; the deep cold and snow and winter is not a challenge;
no wonder they have taken over this part of the east bench area - and use utility lines to travel - between the trees...

Accipiters Genus Accipiter

Description

I am placing this Hawk into the Genus level - for now. I think it is the same "Cooper's Hawk" seen 2 days ago in the same area and I also think it is an Adult - male (smaller in size). I could not get any closer for photos - one step closer- the Hawk turns on the branch - dives away, but after my walk out of the nature preserve (photo of creek is the break)... it came back to the same branch !! - This time with flocks of birds zooming overhead - streaming by...
Weather Conditions: 31 degrees, snowing, cloud cover...

Today (and again from a day ago) - two Red-tailed Hawks circling above - this time a bit more distinction of color on the underside. In one image - I see the notch wing (a few feathers missing in one hawk) - this went on for about 5 minutes

This was different. I know there are Black-billed Magpies - (Pica hudsonia) in the tree, but then Crows came in to join them and it was quite the show as all of them were squawking at the same time. A meeting of the Corvid family - but not everyone was happy about it.

Description

I am fairly certain these are two Red-tailed Hawks in the sky and they stayed together for about 10 minutes - circling above me. I have observed {Western} Red-Tailed Hawks here in this area at tree level - on branches. I have only seen one at a time; first time for seeing two - at the same time. Too high for identification down to species - but probability of Buteo jamaicensis - is good.
