Banded under USGS and State permits. Final year of a Smithsonian-led cooperative effort involving almost 50 researchers (Kevin Tolan and myself included) from across the US and Canada, using lightweight GPS tags to jointly document the migration routes, overwintering areas, and population connectivity of all 3 meadowlark species north of Mexico. Here in New England, Eastern Meadowlarks have declined by ~90% since the 1980s.

You'll have to take my word for it. Occupied by one bat presently, in the column of slats closest to the chimney, starting 3 nights ago. It's been interesting to see how the number of bats in my bat house fluctuates from spring through the end of fall, before they disappear for the winter. Sometimes it's a hostel, and sometimes it's just occupied by a mom and pup.

A gall within a gall? That's exactly what it looks like to me. We picked up the larger gall, but then noticed the smaller structure inside (which is what I would like to ID).
