possibly var. japonica - fits well, with the rounded extremities. looks also somewhat like denticulata but the polar lobe shape doesn't fit.

claviferum - the more developed spines on angles are consistent with that
hirsutum also kind of fits, as might a few others

Description

Good fit for the description, 225 um long, 7 wide, and has been historically reported from this locality (Cushman 1905). Images in Prescott and online aren't a good match, but the description clearly describes a form similar to C. setaceum and C. aciculare, which are both shaped more like this.

Description

49um long, 35 wide; the two semicells are very different from each other, which is confusing.
Not bidentatum, as the apex is not elevated.
abruptum, evolutum or turneri are some possibilities, but the arrangement of spines is a bit unclear on this one.

Description

I am uncertain about this one - I seem to see stellate chloroplasts and a semicell structure in the filament, but it is not clear. 17-18um long x 14 wide - too small for Desmidium elegans or Groenbladia taylori, which look somewhat like this. Bambusina/Gymnozyga confervacea is a good size fit but not ideal shape-wise.

Description

Fits description pretty well; granules at apices not very clear; more visible on one apex than the other.
789long x 48 um wide at its widest, 40um or so for most of the length. (the large size rules out some other species)
