Description

Underneath a Monterey Pine in a backyard, a mouse or rat harvested the nuts out of these cones.

Photos 1-3 show the animal accessed them in at least two ways, by chewing down through the top of them stem and by removing prickles from the bottom.

Photos 4 and 5 show the two piles of discarded shells found a few feet away undercover.

Photos 6 and 7 show some 1/4" scats found at the shell piles.
