What

Cutworms and Dart Moths (Subfamily Noctuinae)

Description

The usual expression in English is 'ants in your pants', but in this case, my family's laundry on the roof drying area at my older son's flat in Condesa contained this moth.

If anyone knows what it is, I (and the rest of the family) would be delighted to find out. It looks sadly English, in terms of lacking the wonderful colours of Mexico, but I don't think we imported it.

I saw these butterflies at Bahia de la Luna, Oaxaca, and would be very grateful for confirmation of my three guesses at identity and help with the other tow

Description

I am sorry that my photo is not very good but I am fairly sure that this butterfly is a Camberwell Beauty (or Mourning Cloak), seen on the canals at Xochimilco in Mexico City.

I have always wanted to see one of these beautiful butterflies in the wild, and hope that this is one. Alas, I did not get a very good view.

Mexican fritillaries are awesome and two years ago I was lucky enough to see the Monarch migration in Michoacán. What a lovely country - and people - and butterflies or rather mariposas.
