Description

I was at Willow Springs, building a small deck overlooking the spring, in order to have a comfortable place to sit in camouflage & photograph whatever critters come to the spring. While cleaning up & putting all my tools back in the truck I noticed this guy walking right by the toe of my boot. I'm guessing it is Aphonopelma iodius/brunnius. Likely the same species as this guy.

Description

This guy landed in a Blue Oak next to my truck while I was unloading the truck near our picnic table at Willow Springs. When it landed, its wings were open, but by the time I got the camera out of the truck, it had closed its wings and didn't open them again until it flew away. I had to shoot it with the 80-400mm lens which was already on the camera, didn't have time to change to 60mm macro lens, and couldn't have gotten close enough to use the 60mm anyway. This is the first time that I've seen this species at Willow Springs.

While taking our dogs for their morning walk on the north slope of our property, I noticed these flowers on the ground beneath a Madrone tree. First time I've ever noticed the flowers of a Madrone. The third photo is of flowers in the tree, taken with a 600mm lens.
