What
Buteos (Genus Buteo)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
Dark morph - our roof gives a high vantage point to lots of different raptors. This one was there long enough for a photo.
What
Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
The park maintenance folks say that this one isn't even bothered by the lawn mowers. She just sits and watches them
What
Western Toad (Anaxyrus boreas)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
We've seen several of these toads each summer for the last 5 years. Sometimes they're in the garden and others out in sagebrush

Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
One of our resident Goldens from an aerie on the rock cliffs east of here. They nest there every year for at least the last 35.
What
Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
This one is shedding and you can see some of the bright blue spots in front of the shadows it was under. Fun to watch it rubbing its neck on the stone wall, trying to scratch the old skin off
What
Lesser Goldfinch (Spinus psaltria)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
These 2 were concentrating on the little sunflowers and had a squabble a minute later.
What
California Quail (Callipepla californica)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
This pair is shepherding their hatch of about 10 chicks. They are about 10 days hatched and are even hopping up into our ble spruce tree. Lots of chatter to keep the chicks in line!
What
American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
There is a good sized population of pelicans that appear to range between Topaz Lake north to Washoe Lake here in northern Nevada along the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. We see groups riding the thermals at a distance daily. The one in the middle of this photo was alone going right over our house.
What
Western Whiptail (Aspidoscelis tigris)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
I think this is a sceloporus graciosus which is a common sagebrush lizard. We've seen them larger than this here but they move so fast it's hard to get a photo. In this picture the lizard is by the shade line left of and just a bit above the pine cone.

Cinnamon Teal (Spatula cyanoptera)Observer
nvldyhawkDescription
Seen at the Carson City Linnear Park of Saliman Drive in marshy area by Lompa Ranch. The location isn't allowing me to choose that spot. It was a pair in a nice marsh ditch thanks to all the precipitation we got this year. Not close enough to get a good pick with my phone.
