Found this branch on the forest floor. I noticed the clustered buds at the tip of the twig (suggestive of oak) and the pointed tip (suggesting red oak group). I figured it was a northern red, but those hairy buds make me think Black. I was too stupid to look around for the tree itself to check out the bark!

Can anyone recommend a good book on ferns for the Cleveland region? Has anyone checked out the Fascinated Naturalist's Guide to Ferns of the Cleveland Metroparks? I've heard of it, but haven't ever seen it. I do have Peterson's guide, but I guess I get overwhelmed. What about the Fern Finder?
